Yesterday night there was a movie on Star Movies called as Monalisa Smile, a film by Mike Newell and having Julia Roberts, Kristen Dunst and Julia Stiles in mean lead. A film about feminine liberation. Set in 1953, Katherine Watson (Roberts) is a free-spirited graduate of UCLA who accepts a teaching post at Wellesley College, a women-only school where the students are torn between the repressive mores of the time and their longing for intellectual freedom (Adopted from Imdb Site).
Definately the question was, is Monalisa smiles because she is happy or we consider Monalisa happy because she appears to be smiling. A truly enigmatic question? Just like that the characters in the movie appears to have lost between their true self and the self that showed to them by the society.
The film has a happy ending where their teacher makes them think independently and live a true life than masquerading one...
But still i think this is the contradiction we face all our life? So a Monalisa is always smiling inside us.
