The life's kaleidoscope

In my childhood days somebody taught me how to make a kaleidoscope with help of three glass pieces (those used to test blood samples under a microscope) and few broken bangles. The patterns that I used to see through the same were awesome and still I always tempted to make such a piece. I do not know who invented the same but a kaleidoscope is a wonderful instrument to make us realize about our life. The events that pass on any given day is like some of the patterns that I used to see in my childhood days.

Today just scanning through some website I came across a book called “you are here” by Meenakshi Madhavan Reddy. She has a very popular blog called The Compulsive Confessor and after reading her blog Penguin gave her an opportunity to write a novel and so the book took birth. The rediff website carried a good long article on Meenakshi’s book and also an interesting paragraph of the book. Some very good thoughts to ponder upon and you know what is great about that book? The language used; bold, courageous and no strings attached. As usual there are some readers who took exception to the content and language used and in their opinion this is the cheap and easy way to make money and earn fame…hmmmmmm.

Only I have one thing to say to such lousy and carp creatures, please grow up. The narration of characters and their feelings are true and it has no religion or spiritual color attached to it. The narration describes the dark side of our personality whose existence is known to us but we refused to accept it as real. You know why? We are god damn hypocrites and have varied opinions in the drawing room and in the bedroom. We are not honest; leave alone to others but to ourselves.

It reminds me of some of my friends. One such friend once told me that he cannot tolerate the view of a girl smoking in public. I said what about a boy doing so, he said there is no wrong in it. I asked him to explain. He said it is a known fact that smoking in lethal, when it kills it never bothers to stop and ask you about your religion, caste, colour etc. but as he is not acquainted with a view of a girl making some whorls of smoke in public so he think it is wrong. Taking forward his logic let me tell you I never dared to take a puff of smoke and I cannot even tolerate such ambience, so smoking is bad; if it justifies a man to be a man then there is no wrong if a woman wants all of us to drive a point home about her latent masculine attributes. However, a word of caution to all my female friends who believe in rational logic, if at all you all want to make a point then do so by proving your mettle in your personal or professional front. Do not just ape what so called big boys do. Moreover I am also a man but never felt like a woman because I do not like smoking, all such perception lies in our mind.

Let us just change the topic towards some lighter side. When boys or girls speak in a similar gender group I know there is no restriction on the topics discussed. But why it is absolutely different scenario altogether when a boy speaks about sex and intercourse among girls or vice-versa. Either the boy will be leveled as a shameless creature who has a high level of animal desires or the girl as a hot sex kitten. Let is just move farther, if a boy can allure too many girls to bed he has highest level of sex appeal but if that is the case for a girl she is no more than a whore! Strange way to judge people?

Can you now co-relate why specifically I gave these examples, just to show you that when we judge people we do not have a uniform bar to measure. We use our whims and prejudices to give opinion about other not actually evaluating ourselves that whether we are worth enough to offer an opinion about someone. So, boys and girls grow up to a rational world where all evaluation is based on pure logic. In fact the world will look more beautiful when we will throw away the colored glass from our eyes.
